My LFS has a 325 gallon tank he is selling so he can remodel his store. he told me he would sell me the tank and the stand for $500. The tank is not very tall but probably 2 1/2 to 3 feet deep and probably 8 feet long. Does this sound like a good deal?
could you put a smoothhound and maybe a stingray in that together? looking for ideas.

Tank and stand for $500? That's a GREAT deal.
Just check to make sure there's nothing wrong with the tank before purchasing it. A deal that good would make me a little suspicious. But if the tank and stand are in good condition, go for it. I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat if it were me.
I don't have any experience with sharks or stingrays, so I can't help you there. But I'm sure someone else on the board can help. :)

Is the tank acrylic? Built in overflows? Any cracks? If the tank is in good shape, it is a great deal. Personally, in that tank I'd do a pair of epaulettes, a yellow ray, and a grouper of some sort. But it is all up to you. Bo

I'd definatly get it.
Although I dont recommend a smoothhound unless you have a new home lined up for it in advance because it will outgrow that tank. They're active sharks that get about 3-4' in length. The tank's footprint sounds very shark/ray friendly though, some bamboos/epaulettes and a ray(I recommend yellow rays) would do nicely in there.

I went and looked over the tank again this weekend and it is 8 feet long and 4 feet deep.. it is acrylic and is predrilled with the overflow already in it. Would you be able to house a leapord shark for life in it?

HELL no. There's no way you could keep a 6 foot shark in that tank.
But those dimensions sound very nice for the species mentioned earlier.

Take that deal and smile for a year and a half. Filtration for that tank will not be cheap but that would be a great shark tank. I wish i could find a deal like that near me then agian i dont have anywhere to put a tank like that.

220 gal (72X24X30) acrylic with really nice pine stand, 300 pounds of LR, 100 lbs or so of LS, 6 big fish, total filtration system(with UV, skimmer, pump and big wet/dry) lights and all for $1500......
I think I am gonna buy it.
Luckly I DO have a place to put it.

Let's back up a second here....
The 325 @ 8' long and 4' tall/deep would only be about 16" wide, you need a lot more "footprint" than height for shark/rays.
Don't think just in gallons but in "usable" area for the acquisition.

Just an FYI to Squid.....
The term "deep" when talking about tank dimensions means front to back, or width. Not how tall the tank is.
