Need some advice, I woke up and went to turn on out tv and it turned on but the screen was grey. I tried using the side panel on the tv to change the channel but it didnt do anything, and i tried using the remote to change it, that didnt work. So i unplugged it and left it for about 5 min and nothing happened. So i can still hear everything just fine, but the whole screen is grey and it stays grey. Any advice on how to fix it, or is it broken?

Is it hooked up to cable? Could the video input be unplugged?

Betting it's the y-sustain board that went south. Not sure if you're comfortable opening up the back of the TV? If so, take the back panel off, and do a survey of the boards. Look for a fried board or popped capacitors.

If not, call 877-MY-VIZIO for customer service, and they should be able to help.

Ill prabably give them a call. I have a feeling i would brake something if i tried that. If it is the y-sustain board(?) How much would it cost to fix?

I called and they said the screen is broken. I have a little story that might explain why. 3 years ao a few days after thanksgiving my dad got the family a 42in lcd vizio tv. About a month later on halloween my brother, lucas, thought it was a good idea to hit a mint with a twizzler, he tried over and over but just couldnt get it. Then he tried one last time and WHAM, right into the tv screen. It was left with colorful lines going vertically and horizontaly across the tv intersecting at the impact point. So we were watching it like that for the past 3 years. So thats what they said prabably caused it. Great.

Your brother broke the family t.v. with a Twizzler? Twizzlers are so soft and chewy! Really, a Twizzler?

yeah, meowze'rs got it right, he we was playing baseball with a twizzler and a mint. I have one question, why do the new tvs that come out have such a delecate screen. We had like an 80lb 32in before that and you could through a shoe at it and it wouldt scratch. Worse is he didnt get in trouble for pretty much braking the new 800$ tv.

Thats why I bought a Plasma. Nice thick glass panel in front of the screen that will be able to stand up to my boys when they start throwing things around.
