Has anyone ever heard of a canopy for a bowed tank? I have a 46 bow that I'd like to get a canopy for. Anyone know where to get one? I can not make one myself..I'm looking to buy one. thank you.

BETH had a canopy made for her bowfront tank.Although she is on vacation this week, you could email her and find out where she had it done...If you are a handy person,it's not all that hard to make one.The tricky part is of corse the "bow".This can be made by making reliefe cuts vertically on the back side of the wood. This will allow it to bend without breaking. Then glue a piece of vaneer(sp?)over the cuts. This will hold it in position, and cover the cuts(looks better)....Another way would be to glue multiple layers of vaneer together after bending them over a bowed form. This would probably be easier to do,and stronger when done.Once you have the bow done, the rest is just like making a box with a hinged lid.....

Hi, Eric I went though the same problem, I have a 36g bowfront! My father and I did build my canopy and it turned out very very well.... we made it high enough that I was able to put a 175w MH overit with np!!! My suggestion is that if you want a true canopy is to go to a local wood working or cabnit shop and tell them exactly what you want built.....take a piece of card board and lay it on top of your tank and trace the outline of the tank and then make outside measurments and add about a 1/16 of an inch in all direction to insure it will fit.....then see if they will build it for ya!!! :D Mine cost around $50 to build but it was DIY so someone else building it will cause more I am sure!!

ok...I think I have a friend who can help me out with this... My Question is this...I have a hang on refugium by CPR, I also have a prizm skimmer that is hanging on the back...How do I get the canopy to fit with the equipment there? Do the people that have canopys have hang on equipment?

not that I know of. If you make the investment and want that "clean" appearence, you usally have a sump. Anybody else have an opinion.

ok...well, i don't have a sump but couldn't i take down my hang on refugium and transfer those contents into my spare 10 gallon. Could I also put my prizm skimmer in that or would there be a problem with the flow rate... I could sell the aquafuge and by a pump to return the water to the tank. does this sound smart or should I just keep the existing system I have going?

Hey Eric, well first of all on my 36g I have a hang on over flow box as you will have to also if you don't have built in over flows.....so my sugguestion is DON'T get rid of any of your current equip......the way my canopy and most others I have looked at are open enough in the back to allow hage on filters and other equipment!
You will want to make the back of the canopy the very last thing you work on...you can acually not even have a back to the canopy and it will work fine......but you will prob want to close it in some so that you light will not come out the back!! I will try to get a pic of my canopy on my website for you to check out!My web site!
