They have some now with built in handles and screw on tops. I just use empty salt buckets. :D

Please don't tell me you can shake a 40 pound bottle of water hard enough to mix the salt! :D

Wal Mart sells 5, 3, and 1 gallon containers right by the RO water machine. Initially you pay for the containers, but then bring them in for refills. I get 3 gallon refills for .99. Not a bad deal, I think.

Thank you guys. I will go to Home Depot and look around. I assume the water cooler jugs will be there as well. Do you collect just enough r/o water to do the 10% water change plus enough for evaporation or do some of you collect more than you need?

I generally keep 6 gals on hand for small top offs during the week and a 10% change on Sundays...my tank is only 37 gallons...so that's usually more than enough. I do pick up water every week though.

I get 2 5 gal jugs full and every 2 weeks for change and keep 5 gal on hand for top offs. I use the jugs from walmart you initially buy, and then pay .33 thereafter for refills. My walmart doesn't always have the 5 gal jugs for sale though.

Yes Wax I can shake a 40 pd jug to mix the salt. The easiest way is to lay it on its side and roll it back and forth for a while. When I do shake it up the salt mixes in no time. Pretty cool. The only drawback is testing the water before I dump it in the tank. I just dump with one hand and hold the tester in the stream. Thank god for a fuge that sits on the ground. LOL

I use the 5 gallon jugs for water coolers. They sell them at most places that distribute R/O water.
I refill them at the R.O. dispenser for .39 a gallon(no Walmart close).

If you have two five gallon buckets, one full of RO, one empty, you can easily dissolve your salt by adding it to the empty bucket. Add about an inch or two of water from the full bucket, and swirl vigorously. Add more water, swirl again. Then, fill the bucket.

I don't have any trouble shaking the 5 gallon jugs either - as long as they only have 4.8 to 5 gallons in them. It's tough if they are over-filled and the air bubble is too small to allow good "sloshing" action.
On RO: I just bought a new "filters direct" 110 gpd filter from the famous auction site for $90. It will be paid for by the time I've filled my tank twice.

Locally we have a place called "Purified H20 To Go". They only sell RO water. I purchased 100 gallons at a time for $35 (35 cents/gallon). They just keep my name on a card in the store, and they deduct my prepaid gallons from that card.
I usually get 10 or 25 gallons a week filled in 5 gallon jugs...the screw on top type with handle.
I used to buy gallon jugs of distilled water from Wal Mart, then I went to using the "RO Machine" they have there as well. I need an RO filter bad.
