has been a long time since i been on this message board...i am looking at setting up a small tank so my nephews can enjoy there own aquarium instead of always bothering mine...was thinking of a 5 gallon hexagon wiht 1 or 2 green chromis and a cleaner shrimp and maybe a small hermit....just wondering if yall think that would work

It could be done.. I would only have 1 VERY SMALL fish in a tank that size. I wouldn't put chromis in there... maybe some type of small goby or another type of damsel that is not as active of a swimmer. When you get a fish, try to make sure that its a TINY one, and that it will stay TINY. :D

I would see no reason why that would not work, I always think that bigger tanks are not only easier to maintain but also more enjoyable to watch, you are obviously wanting a small tank for them though so why not like a ten gallon or something. Ten gallon tank would also be cheaper than a five gallon too. Might make it a little hardier for kids to mantain as far as water changes go and so forth. I think chromis are a good choice, from my experience with them they dont really need all that much room because the tend to swim in only one spot. A damsel might get a little too territorial to whatever else (if you put another fish in there).

thanx....yeah i might get them a 10 gallon instead of 5.....i just rarely ever see a 10 gallon hexagon...it is small considering im use to a my 75 which i still think is small..haha...guess it just goes with the hobby(always wanting bigger and better and closer to the real thing....my girlfriend says my tank is my girlfriend and she is my tank because it gets more attention)

lmao, why do u need a hex? why cant ujust get a normal tank? a 10 gallon retangle tank would be good? limited space or wat?u can also go with a nano- or mini reef. they arent that hard if u have established it

i used a 15 gallon hex before i moved all the things into the 15 gallon rectangle... i found the hex was annoying since you cant really get the full view of the tank, it got annoying for me but thats my opinion
