per ryk, come on now,lol
a 5 gallon is just fine for these guys...i wouldnt go below 3 or go above 10....yes water quality still is an issue, but it can be done with constant water changes and care....the problem with anything bigger is now you have to figure out how in the world to get enough flow to make sure there are no dead spots, yet not too much so they dont fly around...remember they are the size of a dime, adults the size of a quarter(head to tail)...you will have to feed them twice per day at least, which is what makes it hard sometimes because the feeding is so so heavy...there are other threads on here that have info on these guys i'd look at...definitely research alot of them before you purchase. You'll have hatch the brine shrimp yourself...you cant put anything from a display tank into you 5gallon because of very very bad hitchhikers...so most people go with fake decor etc for hitching and what not.
all powerheads and filter intakes must be covered...with a baby being the size of a dime they will very very easily get sucked in, thats how i lost most of my babies, trying to figure out a good filter sponge to put on the intake.
the biggest thing is to make sure you have the dedication...it can become more work if you end up getting very busy and start having only the time to feed and nothing else. with a 5 i'd start maybe with a couple pairs only, with how they breed it can fill up quite quickly.
