Hi, i am trying to help a desparate situation. sales man at ***** tells me with the system i have it will not accomodate any HO or VHO light. I purchased a 50/50 tube light 17w.The manufacturer doesn't want me to place a HO or VHO tube in my hood. Is a 17w 50/50 considered a Hight Output. I don't want to burn the hood up or my house? Am i wasting my time and money?

P.S. The hood does take up to 18w tube.

It sounds like you have a normal output (NO) light. If so, it is what it is. You have to get a different fixture to run better bulbs. The bulb you bought should be fine (safe). But it is pretty much useless for keeping photosynthetic corals alive. You need to search on "power compacts (PC)", VHO, t5 HO, and/or "metal halide (MH)". Each can keep corals alive. MH is the most powerful.
