Seriously thinking about buying this tank, 500g, 4x96 watt custom sealife power compacts, It consists of two huge wet dry filters that measure 36" x 18" x 20" which are full of 40 gals of bioballs. There are two Turbofloter mutli 1000 needle wheel protein skimmers which are ran by two rio 2100 submersible pumps to really skim the waste out of the aquarium. It has a 57 watt quartz sleeved Aqua ultraviolet Uv sterilizer to keep the aquarium disease and algae fee. The aquarium is ran by a Iwaki 70 RLT external ball bearing pump. $3600 what do you think

pic of tank, I like the fact that the stand is sturdy and I can have it finished to match existing cabinets

hey max, 3 and a half grand is a lot of flippin money, if you got it lying around why not if fish is your passion. as for a deal, yeah its not a steal but i think its a decent deal. materials probably ran about 2 gs, will they move it for you. any live rock included. how do you feel about the tank, can you use a massive tank, where would you put in it, you got the money to stock it. 500gallon is monster but it would be pretty freakin sweet

It's got a couple hundred pounds of LS and some LR. They told me the manufacturers name and I called them, just the tank brand new is 5g for 3/4 acrylic. I been itchin for a huge tank. Problem is I really want a reef setup for something this big and not sure i'm ready to start with this size, I've got a 180 and 240 sitting in the garage (don't ask...LOL)

IMO buy the 500 and sell the 180 and 240, youll get most of your money back then put all the money from the other two tanks towards the 1000+ pounds of live rock you will need for a reef in a 500!
problem solved!!
only if it were that easy right?

Glass or acrylic? One LFS around here has an acrylic one of those dimensions for almost 2.5X that much. Sounds like a good deal for all of it. If acrylic how old, how thick, check closely for crazing. scratches?

the tank is 3/4 acrylic, still has the manufacturers warranty, it's in awesome shape. I called the manufacturer and to purchase just the tank new is 5k. I'm starting to take a serious look at if this is a good deal or not, becuase for not much more I could have a custom tank made..........(back track and answer prio post) we used to buy fixers, gut them and resell, did ALL the work ourselves and lived in them while doing the work, 5 years of #ell, only stayed in each house for maybe 6-9months which is the reason why I haven't had a tank in so long, constant moving....made a fortune, but that market is just about dried up....

Well... If I understood you right its 48" X 96" 3/4" acrylic right? The reason for that price is because of its thickness. Plan on lots of bowing with that thickness at that height, dont mean to sound negative but its going to bow a lot. After talking with dozens of fabricators and a few structural engineers some folks at Cyro and Polycast. The below statements became very clear to me. The references are below each one, check them out. A warranty might not be too good after the fact and I would question the longevity of this tank. Of course a lot of the tanks structural integrity is based on the quality of the seams. If your fine with the bowing IMHO thats a fair price for a tank of that thickness. "Basic thickness guidelines are as follows and only apply to tanks 8 feet or less in length:
Aquarium Height Sheet Thickness
1 to 12 inches 1/4 inch
12 - 18 inches 3/8 inch
18 - 24 inches 1/2 inch
24 - 30 inches 3/4 inch"

Phixer, that's some story. Sounds like something straight out of a comic book or something. I have a 75 gallon and can't imagine coming home to a disaster like that. Although I did have one of those crappy nano-cubes that ended up cracking on me for no particular reason. Luckily someone was home when it happened.
