ok my first salt water tank ended up being my husbands reef,so i stold our extra 55g and want to make it the tank i origanally wanted but couldnt have due to compatibility..so here are my choices the first one being the main fish i wanted from the begining of starting my quest into salt water .
hummahumma/picaso trigger
marine betta
coral beauty
pajama cardinal
purple firefish
and i would like some type of starfish havent looked into that part yet suggestions would be appriciated.i have the book( marine fishes )gives lots of help but not enough about who can live together. what i would like to know is how many fish could i get and wich are safe to be together, just set up the tank today ,currently have salt water and argonite only in the tank( no skimmer or lr yet) so i have lots of time before i have to make any decisions thanks in advance for your help.

sounds ok except the marine betta. the marine betta is hard to take care of at first. they are very shy and are very picky eaters at first. only way i would buy one is if you see it eat at the store. imo i would get something else.

If the trigger is your top choice, I'd personally skip the other three. The beta will be out matched for food. The cardinal and firefish will likely become food, and the angel may not stand up to the aggression as the trigger matures. The trigger will also outgrow the tank within a year or so, depending on how big it is upon purchase.

cycle will be done with a raw shrimp but i wont add that till the dust from the argonite settles and the tank looks clear ..as for looking for star fish i was wondering if i could put two different types in the one tank ?my choices of star fish were the cc star and the knobby star.. would i be able to have a lionfish and is there other options of fish that could go with the trigger?so far it sounds like im losing my fight for the trigger i dont see hubby being thrilled with buying all this for one fish :) .
