How much can I expect to pay for a 55 gallon and stand? And how about the tank/stand with everything I need to get started?

It depends one what you are looking to get. Pumps, lights, LS, LR, etc. It all depends. I suggest you do some pricing online. That will definitely get you started with the pricelist. Many things can be bought cheaper online anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I can't find any website online that's worth looking at. If I could somehow get a 55g and stand for around $300 I'd be ecstatic.
Thanks for the welcome Beth.

I built my stand, and it cost me more than $350. I wished I had found one setup already. Try searching on craigslist.org

Check your local newspaper. People decide to get out of the hobby for one reason or another and sell there equipment off at a very good price! Some even come with fish!

If you buy a used tank, make sure the previous owner didn't use any copper medication in it if your building a reef, if they can't tell you than don't buy it. I got mine from a guy who was up grading to a 100gal for his cichlids. He knew what I was talking about so I took a chance he was being honest. Everything else I bought new. 50lbs of Figi rock, 75lbs of sugar sand, sump rated for 75gal w/ protein skimmer and pumps, 260watt PC, 250watt submersible heater, 5gal salt and 75gal per day RO/DI filter came in at just under a $1000.00. Stay away from partical board stands, They suck.

I bought my 65 gal. pre-drilled with an oak stand at my lfs for $290.
But thats aquarium and stand only. Its all the other stuff that starts quickly adding to the cost.
