55 macro tank

I am going to use an old 55 gallon tank as a macro grow tank. My thoughts are to put it under my 20 display tank and connect the 2 with the 20 overflowing into the 55 with a powerhead for return. I plain on adding a DSB in the 55 gallon. Do you guys think that I would have to add more live rock to the 55 if I connect both tanks or not being that the only life I am adding in the 55 is macro algeas?

The 55 would do fine without addition LR.
If I were you, I'd turn the 55g into the display tank, with the 20 being the refugium. That way you have a bigger display tank.

Well the tank is old and scratched. I am going to buy a new 55 gallon for a display and use the old 55 refugium tank as is since it will already be setup on the bottom of the 55 gallon stand. I just wanted to connect the 20 to the 55 gallon for the time being as it will add water volume to my system and keeep my 20 gallon levels more stable.
