A friend of mine at work told me of a friend of his that was looking to give away a 55 gallon tank, 48" long. I told him yes, called the person up tonight he has filters, sand, lights, stand, he had it set up as a saltwater tank. He also said he has a 20 gallon and I can take what ever he has. I am so excited - I am thinking the 55 for a horse tank, which i want to set up this summer, I need a break from setting up another after my 65 reef 40 breeder is done. I will post some pictures tomorrow I am picking it up at 1pm.

WOW.....great deal.....can't wait to see it
do you know what type of lights?
Thanks Meowzer, No I didn't ask - I am kinda hoping they are T5HO, I think it has one of those plastic canopies, wonder how that would work for ponies, I guess as long as the sump fuge is open for gas exchange.

Wow!!! That's fantastic, I can't wait to see it.....A friend who would rather give a full setup away to someone who loves the hobby, than make a small buck on what he could sell it for, knowing how much he has spent on it...is a keeper kind of pal.

Thanks Flower, Honestly i don't even know the guy, but my friend at work thought of me and that too means a lot to me. I picked it up today. Pictures coming.

Well I picked it up it is 48 x 16 high x 12.5 wide = 40 us gallons. Looks pretty nice I think it is a bit low for ponies but I have a pair of convict chiclids I would like to put in. Lots of stuff 3 HOB filters - 2 Aquaclear 300 and one 200. Phython water changers - I will most certainly use for my Fw tanks. 3 or 4 air pumps, stand for the tank. He also gave me this 30 year old tank with a stainless steel top, and a reptile tank (one with the sliding doors on the front. Great person to just give it away. Here are some pictures.

Great score, Al. The second picture (middle pic)...what's up with the vertical trim piece on the back near the top, is it broken or is it just my eyes?

The tank has very thin plastic trim, the glass is really thick 3/8" plus - I am thinking of taking the plastic trimm off and go rimless, there are no cross supports on the top so I think it would be OK. Thanks for looking buddy!

Isn't it odd for a 55G to NOT have a center support? I wonder if the previous owner redid the trim......HMMMMM.....

length matters as much as height. I think you would be fine, just keep your sand at about an inch or so. Its a narrow tank, you should talk to Nova about how he did his rock formations using pvc and rods. I think it would look cool with a nice big arch in the center and columns along the sides.
