55 vs 40 breeder

I'm not sure how to answer your question. Obviously the 55 has more volume and is longer. But with the 40g you have deeper front to back, this could make for more swimming room. You may be able to keep more fish in the 55g.
I will say this... A 40g is a dream to aqua-scape vs a 55g. The dimensions of a 40g make it a very nice small reef tank. 55g are too narrow IMO. If it were me, I would go the 40g hands down.

What do u wanna breed exactly because if you wanna breed tangs or angels or large fish I would choose the 55 but if you are thinking clownfish, dottybacks and small fish I would go with the small tank. P.s. the fish the tangs and angels could be a challenge to breed succesfully

zoid: trigger40 doesn't want to breed fish. He is considering a breeder tank because its footprint is very different from a conventional display tank - breeder tanks aren't as high, but their front to back dimension is larger. This produces more surface area for gas exchange and the greater front to back dimension makes aquascaping more three-dimensional. I have a 30 gallon breeder as a small reef system in my office and it is easy to work in the tank because I can easily reach everything in the tank, whereas in a 55 the height makes it difficult to reach the bottom (as it is nearly impossible in my 110h and 220 tanks.

alright guys thank you for the input. i think i am gona go with the 40. now i would like to talk fish. i was thinking a huma piccaso trigger and a snow flake eel ( i think i am gona stick with a fowlr for now until i get more experience) i think thes fish is ok because of how big the foot print is but let me know if you think different and leave sum suggestions if you would like on some different stolk for the tank. thank you

A hummu hummu nuku nuku apuaa is going to grow to big and be pretty aggressive and you can have a snowflake but you can't keep small fish. i think i might go with the squid lol. but i like many of those fish they are very pritty. i already have a snow flake eel in my 40g(not a breeder) and i wanted put it in ther as a up grade for him but i want a nother fish to go with him and i read up on the piccaso on this web sight and it said minimum tank size was 30.(so is this site not a good reasors of info) so i gess i would go with the dwarf or wrass to go with him.

OK but make sure you make sure the fish don't fit on the eels mouth
