I am running 1 5500K mh, 2 55w pc actinic and 96w pc 10000k and actinic combo over my 40gal reef, the 96w and on of the 55w run 10 hours and the mh and the other 55w run 6 hours, it seems that ever since I installed the mh I have been haveing a problem with algee on my sand (red slime). I use di water, and have no phosphates, all other test are fine. Has anyone else had a problem with the 5500k mh and algee? I was thinking that I would have to upgrade to a 10000k bulb, but before I do that I would like to hear your opinion?

i think the 5500 k bulbs are the wrong spectrum which is causing your algae bloom. I think 6500k are the lowest kelvin rating that should be used. 10000k being white, 20000k being blue. I think alot of people have had the same problems with the 5500 bulb, go with 10000k.
