55gal Build update

I'm week 3, thought I'd post a couple pics. Amonia is 0, Nitrites have dropped over the past couple days and are nearing 0, Nitrates have been up and down thoughout the cycle. I was surprized at that, since I haven't done any water changes. Hopefully a few more weeks and I'll be good to go.
Anyway here's the pics. Should I move my rock all the way to the back wall ? I'll be adding some shroms and soft corals. Fish first or shrooms/corals first ? or doesn't it really matter ?

Moonlight on: sorry so dark hard to get a good pic with my phone.

Hmmm, not sure why my pics didn;t show. Didn't like me embedding the IMG code ?
I'll poke around the site to figure that out.

lookin' good. You might want to add another powerhead on the other side of the tank. I see you are running a canister filter. Any particular reason?

You should start a build thread and update it as you go along on this journey.
I don't recommend stacking rocks up against any wall, but especially not the back. It constricts flow and when a coral frag falls (which will inevitably happen), you want to be able to grab it.
My recommendation: Start with some cleaners like snails and shrimp, only a few. See how they do for a week or two and then try a fish (or pair in the case of certain fish like clownfish). Observe them and how your water parameters change. You might need to add more cleaners after fish are added, as they might increase the bioload. Then try corals.
You can do corals first, it's your tank, this is just how I'd do it.

Thanks Guys,
BTL, I was thinking the same thing as far are not stacking the rock... glad to here I was on the right track with that.
Snake, yeah I have a couple more powerheads I'm gonna order. One for the tank and one for my mixing tub. I bought the tank used and it came with the Can. I'll probably add a HOB skimmer at some point, but wasn't worried about that yet while cycling.

Yup, I agree. One more koralia on the other side of the tank will be fine. I would also start off with a little bit of a clean up crew at first.
If you are using tap water, stop it... use RO/DI water or distilled water for top offs.
Octopus HOB skimmers work really well for the money.
Start putting together a stock list so that we can go over it and find any compatibility issues.

Thanks Seth, I'm happy to say I'm using RO/DI, I bought a 4 stage unit and have a couple of 30gal water cans in my basement for fresh and salt mix. I'll take a look at that octopus hob.
I've been working on a stock list, but nothing final yet. Off the top of my head I'm thinking about a Coral Beauty, a Clown(maybe 2), Flame Hawk, and maybe a couple Six lines(or some other wrasse). That's probably about it, but I may change it around a little... and of course a cuc(snails, crabs, shrimp). I was also thinking about a pistol and watchman too, or maybe change them out for the hawk, but not sure how they'd fit into the mix.
Oh and I'd like a pom pom crab if that would work, those things are so cool doing their Tai Chi.
For corals, starting off easy. maybe shrooms, zoos, etc. I still have lots of reading to do there.
I'm curious to hear what you guys think.

Update.. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
The tank and inhabitants are getting happy. The nit. cycle went like clock work, exactly what was expected, happened within the right time frame. Had a small amount of diatoms, and a little hair algea at the end of the cycle, cuc quickly wiped it out and has stayed clear now. Water parameters have been stable at 0's for weeks now. PH had been running a little low, I'm slowly bumping it up. Cal and alk are running high, I think that's from the purple up I added to kick start the coraline. I stopped adding the purple up several weeks ago, and I've done a couple small water changes, and they're slowly coming down. I added a HOB Skimmer/refuge(refuge is still empty at this point, but will get some macro in there soon). The skimmer started producing a little foam after running for 3 days. I'm sure it will produce more as I get more livestock in there.
Live stock I've adde so far:
after the Nit cycle, I started with couple hermits and snails
week later, 2 ocellaris clowns - Flyers Colors - orange white black :)
2 weeks later, more cuc (quicky wiped out the little bit of hair algea i had)
a coral band shrimp (he's shy, but comes out once in a while and has molted twice now)
3 weeks later I added 2 fire fish
1 colonly of zoans, and a 4 or 5 frags of various colors.
Live stock are all eating well and looking good. I did loose one clown after that first week... He never ate anything from the time I got him. I picked up another one a week later and they are both doing very well after a month Zoans are looking pretty good, but the green dragon eye seems like it could open a little more. I've moved it up a little higher, i'll see what happens. its a realy tight colony, so I'm not sure how much they open when they are packed in tight like that. All the other zoan frags are fully open, and look like they are starting to split and growing bigger. And I'm seeing green and purple coriline starting now(I started with dry pukani rock). I have a feeling its gonna take off like crazy in a few more weeks.
Next up(in a few more weeks), will be a Coral Beauty, and maybe a Yelllow 2 spot Hogfish I saw at the LFS. I also still have my eye a Flame Hawk, but I'll hold off a bit for that guy. Some more polyps, shrooms... and then some softies, a leather or any sugestions please ?
I'm bummed about the one clown, but I think its been a pretty sucessful startup so far.
