What kind of filtration would i need?
Can i get by with a skilter 250 or 400?
Or would i need wet/dry?
I've only dealt with mini reefs and i dont know much about larger tanks.

I'm not an expert by any means but on my 55 I have a whisper 300 hang on and a red sea 90 protein skimmer and I haven't had any problems with either of them. The protein skimmer really helps keep my water clear. As far as live rock Everyone here has told 1 lbs. per gal I still need more I only have about 20lbs. and I have crushed coral and that is a mistake you can avoid go with the live sand. Crushed coral holds everything.

IMO it you've got 75+ pounds of live rock in a FOWLR then you really don't need any other filtration.

The filter portion of a skilter is good, but the skimmer part is not so good. So I've heard. I know someone who has a skilter on a 27 gallon FOWLR and has never had any problems. Maybe she is just a rarity? Probably so, but I don't know. :)

with 75+ pounds of lr then I would just add a protein skimmer and if you have a lot of water circulation then you should be set with a conservative bio-load

Hi, Did you know that they now make the biowheels by themselves so that you can hook them up to the return for almost any under the tank cannister filter? I love the Marineland biowheels, but am not very fond of the Magnum filters or the eclipse filters or and of their other filters with their biowheels.....but I love the fact that they now sell the biowheels to hook up to the return to your tank for any other brand......I love these. I use these instead of a wet dry for my tank and the nitrates are always zero! Lesley
