I agree multiple skimmers can be run on a system that size and buying a quality skimmer for something of that nature is rather expensive!!!!! I'm not sure I follow the same logic or thinking on running them on separate compartments though......To make the skimmers effective and efficient IMHO, they would never be cleaned on the same schedule, and therefore; when one is down from cleaning the others are pulling hard, and you always will have skimmers running full out.....
My questioning about running them in separate chambers stems from the skimmers will never process all the water entering the input section of a sump anyways, so how would it hurt putting them all in the same chamber?? Also spreading them out throughout a sump doesn't give a chance for possible bubbles to rise to the surface and pop. That's a lot of baffles in a sump and wasted space IMHO.
with a 600 gallon system, the sump should be long enough to have multiple sections LOL. as for having them in seperate chambers, thats because having a stronger one in the same chamber will make the other(s) less efficient. basically if it were in one section, some skimmers would intake the cleaner water of the previous skimmer therefor wouldnt have as much to skim. if i remember right, the study determined that each should have its own feed of water. so if serperate chambers was not an option, i would have multiple drains to direct to each skimmer.
