alright so long story short i am moving into an appartment soon.I have a 65 gal, currently not set up(waiting to move first) with a 29 gal sump.If I were to put the tank in a corner, do you think it will be too much weight? it will be on the second floor of an apartment.---I really want/need to know!
okay I want to name some fish thank I want, It may be too many but im just thinking about my options right now and I have some questions.
fish I already have:
black and white clown with 2 chromis.
lion fish
-can I get one? will they eat my fish? reef safe? and what if it touches me? I like the blackfoot lionfish but I want to look into a red fuzzy.
spotted sweetlips
- there doesnt seem to be a lot of info on these. But i like them. Ive seen one in a guys 75 before.
anthia
- some sort, not sure which kind I would like.
diamond goby

puffer
- site says the they arent reef safe, but in the the background I see corals....I was thinking hawaiian spotted?
I may ask about some more fish, I really want to know if I can have my tank on a second floor.
and about the fish, these are only fish I am interested in. So im just looking for info, and that isnt nessarily how many fish I want, I do not know how much would be too much.

ask the land lord if u can have a aquarium most wont let u especially on a second floor. and if it floods ur gunna have to pay alot. a corner should be fine cause there is more strangth there. but u really need to find out and even see if u can get ahold of the plans to see if its strong enough. as for fish lions will eat ur other fish if u dont feed enough. and they are reef safe, well at least the one i had was. ppuffer i wouldnt recommend. and anthias yes

Sweetlips, no....They get huge. You could have a dwarf puffer but it may eat any inverts you have. Yes you could have a dwarf lionfish but once again it will eat anything it can fit in it's mouth. So pick carefully. For corals, I would recommend the lionfish because they are carnivores specifically. Just make sure than none of your other fish are smaller than it. They may also go after inverts so increse your rockwork for them to have places to hide and keep him well fed.

It depends on how well build these apts are. Also, it would help to know the direction and placement of the floor joice. You want to spane at least 3 if you can. Some people use plywood to help distribute the weight. Most apts will tell you No Im sure, but if you want it setup, do some research on the apt. building and make sure no kids live under your future spot! Its defiantly doable I have a friend who did a 90 gallon on the 2nd floor. Good Luck!

---I really want/need to know! I second the asking the land lord. If it is in a corner then it should be ok.

I hear they can get a good size. And 75 is bigger than 65

ive talked to some other people. 3 people have said they have 90 gal tanks with sumps on the second floor. Im going to check with the land lord though.
no sweet lips, I know the 75 was bigger but not by much. The sweet lips will get over 3 feet, so I feel bad for that one that was in the 75.
im still un decided on the lionfish, if it stings me im in the ER and I have no insurance. as for puffer, i like my corals.....
im still very undecided on my fish. I wanted something that was kind of out of the ordinary. seems im limited...
a sting ray would be cool.....haha i wish.

ok. I just moved out of a 3rd floor apartment with my 210g. when we moved in I made sure that my wife asked every time that she was in there talking to someone. one time they even told her they would give her the contact info of the person that custom built their tank in the office. as for the puffer not being reef safe it is because they will eat inverts and some times eat corals. the lion will not attack you just because your hand is in the water. my volitan stays on the other side of the tank when I am working in it.

If you want something out of the ordinary that is reef safe I would get the Lion, and to replace the puffer what about some type of smaller Angler. They have a lot of different Anglers and they live on the reef in the wild. They are all colored to match up with the corals so I think they would be great in your tank. Again, as with the Lion, make sure that you don't have any small fish as an Angler will try to eat anything that can fit in its mouth.

You should be fine with the weight especially if it is in the corner. I am in a condo on the 2nd story and I also have a 65. But before I had a 46 in an apartment on the 2nd story. I just have it against the wall and not in the corner. If it makes you feel better you can cut a piece of plywood about a foot bigger on all sides than the bottom of the stand and set the stand on top of it before you put water in it. This will help distribute the weight a little more.
Screw the landlord. He is probably a jerk anyway. I never asked mine. You should really get renters insurance though just in case. Especially if you have a sump.
