700 dollar bottle of beer?

Then I wrote about PR-happy Scottish microbrewers BrewDog back in April, I had a feeling it wouldn't be the last time. But this time, the company has truly outdone itself, not only creating a "beer" containing 55% alcohol by volume, but which also comes packed inside the carcass of a dead rodent.
BrewDog's "End Of History" beer gets its name from the works of philosopher Francis Fukuyama, "who defined history as the evolution of the political system and traced this through the ages until we got the Western Democratic paradigm."
Well, say the folks at BrewDog, their rodent-packed potable "is to beer what democracy is to history... The beer is the last high abv beer we are going to brew, the end point of our research into how far the can push the boundaries of extreme brewing, the end of beer."
According to AdWeek, the beer, which has now sold out, was selling at around $760/bottle. At that price, it may not be the end of beer, but it would certainly be the end of my beer money for quite some time.

Never mind a 700 dollar bottle of beer. But check this out.

I was wondering if anyone was going to post that up today.
How could you not? a 700 dollar of beer, encased in a bottleand a taxidermied small rodent. And it is 55% alcohol content.

I would like to taste a 55% alcohol beer. Guess it would be like doing shots of Jack Daniels but stronger.

Dump some everclear in a glass of beer

I am not sure how you get 55% alcohol "beer". I've heard of some homebrewers breaking 12% pitching champaign yeast but it supposedly doesn't taste all that great

It would almost have to be distilled at some point. No yeast that I know of (I've been homebrewing for about 15 years) can take that high an alcohol content without being killed off.

So let's see ...
I can get roadkill here for free.
Spend $10 for a pint of everclear.
Spend $1 on a single beer.
Put it all togther and bam ... you save yourself $689.

The guy who showed me this, was explaining how 55% ABV beer is possible, but it beats me. I think another one was called Sunk the Bismark. (obviously the brits made it)

I was wondering the same thing, the best I have been able to get is 9% percent with a Trappist yeast and freaking huge grain bill and candi sugar. No way as a home-brewer I would even think about paying 10 bucks for a bottle of beer these days.

Since we are talking about alcohol and animals ...
Jack Daniels Fishing Story
I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait.

Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.
Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth.

Here's how
Brewer's Description:
"Sink the Bismarck! is beer, amplified. With the volume turned full up, it is important you that you be careful with this beer and show it the same amount of sceptical, tentative respect you would show an international chess superstar, clown or gypsy. Sink the Bismarck is a quadruple IPA that contains four times the hops, four times the bitterness and frozen four times to create at a staggering 41% ABV. This is IPA amplified, the most evocative style of the craft beer resistance with the volume cranked off the scale. Kettle hopped, dry hopped then freeze hopped for a deep fruit, resinous and spicy aroma. A full out attack on your taste-buds ensues as the incredibly smooth liquid delivers a crescendo of malt, sweet honey, hop oils and a torpedo of hop bitterness which lasts and lasts."
I am assuming when the freeze it they remove the byproducts which basically leave the alcohol which wont freeze. Never would have thought of doing that back in my brewing days. I did break the 9% threashold with a batch.

That freezing trick has long been used by farmers to make apple-jack out of hard cider. I kind of think this method removes mostly water and concentrates the bad stuff along with the alchohol.

That being said, I seriously doubt the beer tastes good. It is purely an excersize in how strong we can get it.

Even without pulling all the malt and such out by freezing beer supposedly doesn't taste right once you break 12%.

Yeah, a good barley wine should be plenty strong for most people. I was taught the less you mess with your beer the better it will be and I follow that advice..
