actually, I have both types that you have.
The one like in the 1st pic, I have to feed mine very regularly. The heads are always hungry and the tentacles are always out for food.
The one like in the 2nd pic, I hardly feed mine with anything. Perhaps, I just quit trying to feed them cuz the tentacles don't come out, but the polyps are growing and spitting.

in 72 we have
copperband
blue tang
yellow head sleeper goby
green mandarin
green clown goby
yellow watchman
2 cleaner shrimp
1 coral banded shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
crabs snails etc.
in the other tank we have a green spot mandarin a perc and a yellow clown goby. and 2 peppermint shrimp

I have mine under MHs
they love it.
I moved them to a lower light spots before and they just shrank down so I moved them back to the same old spot and they are back in business.
Some people would disagree on this, but...you know, whatever floats their boats..

on the 72 gallon we have the coralife aqualight pro combo light
2x150w 10000k HQI metal halides
2x96w actinic power compacts
3x lunar light
As far as filtration through experience we have found it best to keep it simple
protein skimmer
2 powerheads
biological and mechanical filtration (no sump)
5% weekly waterchange
iodine strontium and calcium supplemented
phytomax for clams gorgonian and sponges
