16" batfish? That puts the tank size in perspective. How about some shots from the sump end of the loop? The tank looks great just the way it is. Do you have a lot of little hand prints to clean off each day?

dont forget guys, it's not a "reef" tank

You're exactly right. These people that come into the children's library aren't all about the live rock.......they are about the fish. The fish in that tank are beauties....at least most of them are. People don't come in and say wow.........nice rock.
The kids seem to like it. :)

Great job Rye, I am guessing you maintain that aquarium through your fish store...

Yes sir. We maintain this aquarium as well as about 120 more around the city.....I do it sometimes, but we have a couple other guys that do most of the cleaning and maintenance work. It's actually fun when your getting paid for it. :)

Yes......that fish is huge. It is so active too. The tank itself is 9ft x 4ft x 3ft. I don't have any pics of the sump room right now but, I will get some when I get a chance. Fingerprints galore from all of the little people. :)

Uh.........no. Lionfish love to perch on things and hang upside down in caves.......we have several areas in the tank for the big Volitans (12") to hang freely.......you just don't see the overhang areas in the picture.

You know . . . there are not many posts that I come across that make me laugh out loud, but that one sure did. :D
The tank looks great BTW, something for me to visit someday. I am applying to U. Cinci's graduate school soon. Is it just me or does the water look cloudy though? Perhaps just the photo . . .

The water wasn't cloudy in the pics but, the room sure was. I hate Flourescent lights!! They give that wierd green color cast all the time.
Also......since the room was poorly light......I had to increase my ISO speed to 1000 which then increased my grain size and I wasn't able to open the aperture enough since the fish were moving too fast to slow the shutter down! :D So yes.......the water "looks" cloudy in the pics.

cool pix, expecially the ones which writes "Ryan Detzel" on the pic :D
Putting artificial corals from the top of the tank is also a good idea

First off, Cool tank.
However when I first saw it I said that no way is that 800 gallons. Then when you said that bat fish is 16" I was convinced.
Rye, can you post a picture with someone standing in front of it to give it some perspective?

Another thing, since you already have Dori have you thought about adding Nemo? Or would it get eaten? Not a good thing for the kids to see.
How many days out of the week do you go there?

I will have to get a shot with me in front of the tank for some perspective.
The tank dimensions are 9ft long x 4ft high x 3ft deep.
No Nemo's in this tank. We have a few damsels in there but, even they are around 4-5".
