I am starting from scratch, all I have is the tank and an old cover. I need new light bulbs/fixture, filter, skimmer, heater. Its an 90g, 48"L x 18"W x 24"H. This is my first salt water tank, I need some info on the whole reef setup. I would like live sand, live rock, set the rock up nicely and then add some coral and anomes (sp?) What would you recommend for a nice filter, skimmer and heater, something on the budget side but with great results.
I wasnt sure if i wanted a live rock and fish tank but i decided that I want a reef tank if it isnt very very hard to maintain. I of course want many nice fish, that is my main focus along with the nice landscape/reef. I would like to fit as many fish as i can in the 90g (9?), few clowns, 1 tang, 1 angel, some others..
thanks.

isnt that a 90g dimentions? i don't have my calculator
like most we all started on a budget trying to get unrealistic results with cheap equipment
the best i can say is rome was not built in a day, take your time and purchase quality products that give results
if on a budget look at used items on this board or ----
good luck

i have a budget of around 400 for it all
Item # Description Price Qty Subtotal Remove
CD-912078 TS Heater (250 watt) $ 19.99 x = $19.99
CD-901915 Double Suction Heater Holder w/cups $ 1.49 x = $1.49
CD-14122 Bubble Disk (Large) $ 4.69 x = $4.69
CD-14412 Prizm Deluxe Skimmer (up to 100 gallons) $ 89.99 x = $89.99
CD-909604 Eheim Wet/Dry System Model 2227 $ 169.99 x = $169.99
CD-960221 Azoo Powerhead 1800 $ 26.99 x = $53.98
Subtotal = $ 340.13
That is what I have from drfostersmiths site. I think that is all i need besides Marine/Reef Test kits and I need a some help on lighting systems.
Im a little lost on which to have in my tank, I want live rock and sand with coral on them, so in otherwards a reef tank. however i do not want any clams, snails, or crabs. I just want the reef to contain coral, LR and fish. I saw that there are test kits of reef tanks and test kits of marine tanks, for the fish. should i get both kits? this leads me to think that i should plan my tank better before i mix the fish and reef and screw something up. Is it okay to have my reef tank with whatever fish and should the test kits work well with each other?
im just worried that im not planning this out right and i might mess my fish up or coral by not knowing that they shouldnt belong together because of their differences in the ph levels, nitrate, etc etc.

If you are on a budget, the only place you should be shopping is ----. You'll save 10-20% over Dr. Fosters.

on a 90 gal tank, i'd drop the prizm.. and i'm not even sure what a bubble disk is.. there are some good skimmers Ex: CPR bakpak. Maxi jets are also really good power heads and are usually a little cheaper. and aim for at leat 10x turn over
