8g What could I put in it

Last night I posted how I have a shelf by my computer that needs something. Im always at my desk here at the house when Im not at work. Thought something to look at like fish would relieve some stress. Found a nice small 8g aquascape round aqaurium that will fit on the side shelf nicely.
Question is what can I put in it ? I like the clowns, or any other small colorful fish. Due to the size I know I cant put many fish in there maybe 2 or 3, and how its harder to get the water specs correct for a healthly living envirnoment.
Suggestions as to fish, etc ?

Putting more than 1 fish in a tank that small is a recipe for disaster. I think you would be happy with a chunk of live rock and 1 small fish.
edit- I thought the title said 3 gallon. With an 8 gallon, you might be able to squeeze 2 or 3 fish in there :)
Remember with a small tank that you are going to have to do water tests pretty frequently because with so small a volume of water, even a small piece of uneaten food can quickly foul the water.

Hehe. 3g sheesh. My shelf isnt that small.

But I was thinking a pair of clowns.
What about some tiny shrimp ? or a snail ?
Also what about live plants, rocks ? Can you name specifics that the clowns like.

I wouldn't keep even one fish in a 3g. I really wouldn't recommend such a small tank, as mentioned in the thread you previously made, but if you're definitely going with an 8g, I would put no more than two small fish in there. Some people have successfully kept a couple percula clownfish in 7g tanks. Not that I would do it, but it's possible.
You could get away with a few snails and probably a peppermint shrimp as well. Live rock is always a plus.

I'm sure you can put a small shrimp in there as well such as a peppermint shrimp. A snail shouldn't be a problem either. If I were you I'd put a few hermit crabs in there and a few turbo snails.
As far as plants, there is a neat-looking, hard species called Caulerpa or something similar (I can't spell it lol).

What do ya know, I did spell it right, hehe. Here are some plants you can use:
Caulerpa racemosa (grape plant)
Penicillus capitus (shaving brush)
Chlorodesmis fastigiata (turtle weed)
Halimeda sp

I know this is a SW site, but with 8 gals you're better off with some nice goldfish or a betta. You can be lazier about maintenance and won't even need a heater. Even though I have a SW tank downstairs, I love looking at my little goldfish tank in my bedroom each night.

No don't listen to this guy,is all about saltwater!
JK.:D
Anyway,in an 8g you can put two small fish and also like a fire shrimp and some cool crabs like a pom pom crab.
Altong as you have a good amount of live rock and you keep up with your water changes everything should be fine.

I 'live' at my desk, and I was looking at small tanks too, funny this came up at the same time. I was thinking fw with some fancy guppies. fw would just be easier and if I had it so close to my work space I would always be wondering if everything was just 'right'. Betta is a good choice...but I want more than just one fish, so I might go gups!!! Let us know what you decide and post a pic!!!!!!! Here's to a stuck at the desk people!!!!:hilarious

I had a seven gallon minibow that I kept clown gobies in. The only thing that stank was that they ate brine and it made a mess.
Honestly though, out of all the transformations I made in that minibow, my favorite was the fw planted tank I did. I got a pair of furcata rainbows and three raspbora hets and it was so purty.

I have a 2.5g freshwater tank right next to my monitor and it looks nice, but a freshwater tank would never look as good as a saltwater tank IMO.Im actually thinking about converting it into a pico reef.:D

A 12g is definitely better than an 8g (remember; bigger is always better in this hobby!). I like my Eclipse system just fine. It's a matter of personal preference. If you like it, then I'd go for it. It seems a little pricey though. My 29g Eclipse system was I believe $140. :)

Thank you for your kind words. I'm relatively new to this hobby (or addiction/obsession, if you will =P) but I do my fair share of research and help when I can. :)
