911: Anemone vs Powerhead

This is today after coming home from work...
Anemone sucked into powerhead. There is a grating on the input of the powerhead, but obviously the suck is so powerful it already pulled in a healthy bit of the anemone and minced it. As you can tell the water quality has already degraded considerably compared to yesterdays pic (cloudy water).
I turned off the powerhead. Now what??? Suggestions??
Water change? Pull what is left of Anemone out of powerhead or let it come out/rot off on it's own??
This just figures!! was on the phone with a friend yesterday and he asked doesn't the anemone walk around. Moved the first day I got it then stayed put ever since, lo and behold this! Dicides to walk and it has to find the powerhead!!

I had this happen with a Condi anemone. I just turned the powerheada off and carefully took the anemone off. It really stretced the thing out though. It was fine for a couple months after that but got sucked up 2 more times. The third time really did it in though. It just shriveled up and died. I took it out and flushed it after that. Good luck though.

Jeeze when it rains it pours, this is like the 3rd thread about an anemone getting stuck in a power head.
Run fresh carbon immediatly, change it in 24 hours and then put a fresh batch in for 48 hours.
30% water change, with water that has been well mixed for at least 24 hours.
polyfilter if possible.
Allow the anemone to come out itself if possible.
You need to find some type of sponge or something to keep this from happening again. Plastic basket, something.

For the benefit of others of us who'd like to prevent this, what works the best? Just kindof wrap a plastic basket around your intake? Someone mentioned eggcrate for this also, would that work? A certain kind of sponge?
Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well this was a bad weekend for something like this to happen. I didn't even have any time to do anything about this even if I wanted to.... Brother in Law's wedding this weekend and all the events surrounding the wedding (+ out of towners visiting) kept me completely occupied.
My anemone has since extracated himself from the powerhead and hopefully he will survive. Skimmer did a good job, cleared up the water on it's own.
Now I just have to do something with the powerhead before I can fire it up again, especially since the anemone has now taken up residence on the glass near the powerhead.
I give credit to the clownfish. They are staying with the Anemone on the side of the glass.... must be tiring for them as I don't see how they can get much rest without drifting off the anemone.
This almost seems like we need some sticky posts on essentials of keeping anemones:
1) Feeding
2) Lighting
3) Anemone tank proofing (almost like childproofing your home...)
Powerheads sound like they are the silent killer of anemones out there. No need for any senseless deaths out there, it's like we need to get the word out of the dangers powerheads pose to Anemones.

I bought some material made from the inside of blankets that they sell at walmart and wrapped it around the powerhead and tied it with zip ties then you can change it every week or so when need. also works as a extra filter and is real cheap.
