96 w ballast to power 55w bulbs?

Hi, was wondering if i can use 96 watt ballast to power up a 55 or 65 watt pc bulb? will it burn out faster?

This is good question. I do not have the answer but I am wondering why no one answered it.

Well i'm running that way now, already had a 2x 96 pc fixture but was to big for my tank so i did a retro and used 55 watt, watched it, seems to be no problems and looks good.
