A case of the avoids

We are always telling new hobbyists the things to do, how about adding to this list of things to avoid.
Avoid overcompensating
Avoid adding to may fish to soon
Avoid skipping quarantine
Avoid neglecting water testing
Avoid over cleaning
Avoid under cleaning
Avoid skipping research
Avoid generic equipment selection (purchase equipment that satisfies your specific needs)
Avoid improper nutrition
Avoid improper use of bottle remedies

I agree with you on all but the generic equipment.
Some generic equipment can be modded out and work 20% better then the high end equipment. But that is just me.

In most cases IMO modded out equipment will not come up to the standard of the specific equipment intended for our individual tanks (customized filtration, lighting water movement and aeration est.)But I also agree that the more seasoned hobbyist can modify equipment to reach a higher state of efficiently

Good to know I read the same magazines as you do.

I do have to agree with most of those rules, however I have yet to quarantine anything and have yet to have any problems. Beginners luck possibly LOL

My friend as they say in Las Vegas sooner or later the house always wins. And in this case disease is the house

Avoid embarassment by learning correct pronunciation :D
Avoid greed by setting a budget
Avoid pride by realizing there is always more to learn.
Avoid anger by knowing there is something else that can be done to help.
Avoid sloth by being diligent in your aquarium maintenance and upkeep.
Avoid envy by realizing that you too can have a beautiful tank.
Avoid obsession by realizing there are other hobbies and friends and family to talk to as well.

Avoid sharing to much of your enthusiasm with non-Aquarium people or you may find yourself shipped off to a asylum for the insane.
