Tropical Fish Hobbyist is doing a small report featuring Saltwaterfish.com and our sister company, Oceansgarden.com.
Basically, we have identified several fish for hobbyists to consider, either because of the fact they can be aquacultured, or collected in a sustainable fashion. They are requesting high resolution photos (1200 X1800) and we thought we'd reach out to our members for a quick contest.
The following are the species requested:
Sixline Wrasse
Clown Trigger
Powder Blue Tang
Porcupine Fish
Flame Angel
Scooter Blenny
Bangaii Cardinal
Orange Line Chromis
Canary Blenny
Arc Eye Hawkfish
Spanish Hogfish
Zebra Lionfish
The winning entries will be picked by us Thursday, June 19th. The winners must certify that the picture is an original photograph, taken by them, and they are releasing all rights to the use of the photograph.
The winners will each receive a $20.00 credit for purchases at either Saltwaterfish.com or Oceansgarden.com.
More inportantly, you will receive photography credit for your shot in the Magazine.
We thought this would be a fun way for some members to get published. We will choose the winners. Please do not post the high res versions, we will get them from you if you win. Also, please post your entries in the threads provided.
Good luck to everyone!
Scott

what are you talking about? you take the picture and post it, not someone else's picture. if YOUR picture wins, then you get the $20. plus, you get credit for your work, if it is used.

Doug, don't worry. Nobody is using pics of your fish. Chill out.

No one said anything about taking pictures of someone else's tank. The assignment is to take pictures of fish. I'd don't have most of these fish in my tank, because I choose not to stock them. Doesn't mean I don't know someone else who has them and that they care if I take a picture and use a picture to win $20.00. 90% of the time, on a fish picture, you don't even see the tank ~ hell I could take pictures of fish in my LFS and nobody would know the difference most of the time. Most people I know would be excited that is was a picture of their fish that won the contest and is going to be featured in the magazine. Perhaps there is some kind of underlying issue here
?

well.. my tank isnt big enough to house those fish nor is it set up yet... but photography is a hobby of mine.... so ya I would take pictures of other aquariums. I have pictures of a few of those already, but if its going to cause someone to get all bent out of shape about it..... then best not post them I guess eh?

well when you have someone permission to take there pictures... then there is nothing wrong with it. I have full permission to take and use pictures from a number of places, not just in the fish world either. I have taken a few "money shots" before

Sorry Mods, I didn't think that my simple question would get a single person so bent out of shape
. I appologize that I even asked the question.

Due to the recent issues with Photobucket being hacked, can the dead line be extended? Does anyone else know of any image hosting sites? I have used yahoo, but those seem to drop the links after a few days.

Yes it was. If you google photobucket you'll find out a bunch of stuff about it. They said half the users were affected and the other half had no issues. When I look through the photo forums on some reef sites, all you see are the red x's.
