A couple questions from me - new to hobby

Hi,
A couple quick questions (I hope quick).
1) My yellow tang I think has HLLE (I believe). The color above his face is fading and there are a couple lines new to his body from his face. I recently bought some Spirolina (sp??) flakes and it loves it, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I have also added occassionaly some seaweed. It seems to be getting better, but am not sure. Maybe more time needed, but want to make sure I am doing everything I can for it.
2) I have seen various websites that have "cleaner packages" of snails, crabs, starfish, etc.. with several crabs in the packages, several being 15 to 40 depending on the package. I can see having several snails around the tank, but that many crabs?? Just seems alot. What amount of snails, crabs, shrimp, stars, etc.. should I have?
Here is my tank and current equipment, etc.. 80 gallon tank (probably about 70-75 gallons of water), 1 yellow tang, 1 domino damsel, 2 maroon clowns, 2 other clowns, 2 sargent major damsels, 2 striped damsels, 1 yellow tailed blue damsel, 1 hermit crab, 2 turbo snails. Equipment: Fluval 404, 1 powerhead. I use the instant ocean salt, Amquel detox, Novaquel/Stress Zyme, just started using CYCLE as Nitrites are high. I think that is it. I maybe missing something, not sure.
3) Any thoughts on an inexpensive protein skimmers? I know I probably need one, but do not want to spend alot right now. Maybe I can wait 3-4 months to get a good one, but am wondering if I need one sooner.
Thanks for yor thoughts in advance.
Marty

Just my $.02, I love my hermits. I have a total of 40 in my 50g tank and there are always at least 10-15 in view working and eating. People typically look straight past the fish to the inverts in my case. I have 20 snails, 40 crabs (20scarlet leg, 20 blue), 3 emerald crabs, 1 Sally Lightfoot. I like having all of this and with the exception of a couple snails, the mortality has been very low.
