A few nano questions(size and skimmer)

So I've seen some pictures of beautiful nanos with mostly inverts and just 1 or 2 fish. I was also under the impression that most nanos especially the "cubes" have built in filtration. However that filtration includes no Protien skimmer. How do you keep these little systems stable and clean with out a PS? Does the small amount of livestock/waste reduce the need enough if you don't over feed?
Thanks,
B

I'd think so. i have a 10 gallon that's doing great. instead of the skimmer i just keep good flow and keep up on my water changes...but you might want to get a HOB refugium to help keep everything stable. Especially if you want 2 fish instead of 1

How big is still considered nano by the way?
Is it really just kinda up to individual interpretation?
I am pretty good with water changes. I have heard of people filling their nano with change water off of one of their main tanks. Good idea, bad idea?

a few companies do make nano skimmers, i know current USA makes the nano fission skimmer, and CPR is going to be coming out with a AquaC Remora nano skimmer.
here is a photo of my fission skimmer when i first got it.
