ryan, i think the scientific name of your star is linckia multifora. very similar in care to the blue star linckia laevigata.
hey if you wanna email me the name or somethign or if you are ever interested in sellign your multiples email me at jonthan.garnett@attbi.com i have been looking for those guys for years now, my boss at the lfs has a single one that he paid like 35 bucks for and he cant get it to grow at all. i have orange ricordea, but its nowhere near as colorful as yours!

kickster, i was only aware of these and the blue linkia ever being offered from the linkia genus. from what i understand most all of the others grow too large to be cared for in a hobbiest tank. i know there is a maroon-purple star that is often referred to as a linkia, however the only two possibilities could be Leiaster speciosus, and tamaria srtia. the leiaster genus is from the indo pacific, while the tamaria genus is from the sea of cortez. at the same time i have what was sold to me as an orange linkia star, possible a sri lankan orange, however i dont know and havent been able to find the scientific name for this guy. any ideas?
good luck

Multiflora was in the back of my head somewhere. Spotted sounds like it could be the common name but, I think I may have heard it called something else. I have a chance to pick up two or three more of these stars at very low prices and I am wondering if there would be any negative effects of having three or four in my 29 gallon...........any insight?

Where on earth did you guys get those ricordias? I have a few that are different colors but none anywhere near those colors. Where do I sing up for them? I have go tto have one!

Thanks for the compliment Rye. OH and I think (not sure yet) you ended up with a nice capnella instead of the devils hand....hope you are still happy anyway :)
I got them from one of the members on this board........not sure yet if he wants to take claim to my new stuff
Thanks Rye but I don't want you to get mugged for witholding information from board members...lol. I honestly didn't think there would be this much interest.
To end the "mystery" around the source of RyeBreads new corals I will fess up. They came from my propagation tank. I asked Rye not to mention where they came from because usually I spend a lot of time answering e-mails from "interested people" and for one reason or another it always falls through(once as I was walking out the door to UPS with 10 frags). Half of what Rye got was more colony or sm/md sized than an actual "frag" maybe when the rest opens up he will share some more pics (hint hint:D)

Will do. I was wondering if that was a Devils Hand. My star polyps are almost all the way open now but, still waiting (patiently I might add) for the ubrella or toadstool leather and encrusting gorgonian to fully open up. I already have Xenia spreading to other rocks. Thanks again.

LOL...I warned you my xenia will quickly become the weed in your tank. I am surprised that the EG hasn't opened all the way, it likes an obnoxious amount of current...but will do fine with very little. I take it the leathers are partially opening ?? It has been less than a week but they should be coming out soon.
How is the POM POM doing? I noticed from the pic of the Giant Anthelia that it was starting to open too. Watch out  that stuff can outgrow the Xenia.
Great to hear everything made it and is doing ok.

SiF

The Pom Pom seems to be doing okay. It is not fully erect (can I say that on TV?) quite yet but, I will give it a little more time before I go moving it around again.
I love the Giant Anthelia. It is one of my new favorites. It is now fully open and softly flowing.......quite calming to look at. I am hoping that my Percula Clown will take to it and stop messing with my Frogspawn. Frogspawn has really suffered. I am not a fan of anemones in home aquariums so I hope the perc likes the Anthelia..........I have heard of this haven't I? Hope so.

Hmmm...I think they (clowns) may enjoy the new Sarcophyton sp better than the Anthelia...but who knows they may like the Anthelia if they ever do try it :)
The POM POM is only 3-4 generations away from wild so it will take a little longer to acclimate. Once it is up(no pun intended lol) and open the polyps on it are almost as big as the anthelia.

PS It is very calming especially when you have 2 sq ft of it LOL
Here is the Pom Pom just before you got it.
