A forum for tank pests and disasters

i think it would be a great idea if there was a thread started on all the 'bad guys' that show up, like aptasias and red planaria. it would give a great starter point for people trying to identify hitchhikers.

cranberry runs a site that is awesome for that, i can never rememebr the name of it. something like lions den or soemthing.

I think that page I linked is Cranberrys website, I could be wrong. maybe she would like to start with copy and pasting what she has there in the hitchikers place to here and then we could add pics and reviews on other stuff that we don't see there. If she's willing to do that, I dunno.

I don't agree with their broad statement regarding isopods...while there are some predatory species, the most commonly encountered isopod in our aquariums are the Munnid isopods (pictured), which are harmless algae grazers and great fish food.

I too am finding some things on that site that I'm not completely in agreement with.... Good concept though (I like yours more, LOL)

which is another great reason for some expierenced hobbiest to do a proper write up on this site.

"Critters" are a tuff one because many are hard to photograph due to their size or cryptic nature, which is why we use the "pictorial" guide format on our site. It allows folks to simply match a photo to the critter they've seen in their tank and they get an idea as to if it's a "goody" or a "baddie", so to speak. If it's one of those "it depends" critters, we gave it a "watch them" rating. Our ID guide will never truly be finished, as there are always new additions. In fact, we often have peeps send us specimens for photographic purposes since you never know who will end up with what hitchhiker.
Renee (Cranberry) and I are currently working on some other articles for our site's library, as our move interrupted the flow so to speak...
