Hello Yall
here is a newbe to our system
was sold as a green star polyp
and after thinking about it. id doesnt look like any i've seen. impulse shopping is not good LOL
so is this some kinda montipora im not sure. but wanna make sure my lights are enough for it. 55 gal 48 " 260 watts, 65x2 12k day and 65x2 actinic blue

well it looks like it might be green stars kinda hard to tell can u get a close up of the poylps? Also remb impulse buying is a bad thing in this hobby LOL

well its not to bad but its kinda small and the poylps are not very big. but once they grow a little it will be worth it.

Small? its like 5 " wide and about 3 " tall, and the shape is incredible LOL

its weird. that "thing" its on. isnt a rock at all.
its a soft leathery spongy feely kinda matt. under one piece of the purple is a rock, maybe the size of a soda can " circumference" then the rest is this purple mat thats why i asked earlier if it might be some kinda other thing LOL

Sounds like the "purple" is the matt that the GSP (green star polyps) grow from and spread with. Maybe someone made a shape with some pipe or something for the GSP to grow on to??

Just a thought, however, I do think the purple matt is the GSP's "base". :happyfish

They are definitley GSP's. I have bought many clusters like yours and they grow into that shape naturally. What I would do is cut it up into about 3 or 4 sections and place them through out your live rock and they will grow and spread quicker then you can believe. After a couple months you will have polyps all over your tank.

the star polysps come from different oceans one kind is on the purple mat and the other is what you have cant find my book that tells what they are

CUT IT UP??? LOL im not ready to be fraggin no babies! :hilarious
although, TODAY. i almost grabbed me out a shroom after reading Oceana's post on fraggin. good thing i didnt have the netting. cuz id be busy as a beaver

robpsca- where do you buy your corals? im in lake havasu and am in palm springs 2 times a week on business. i was told the nearest tropical store was in redlands od san bernadino? small one in yucaipa but expensive. let me know. thanks
