ok, so nix that fixture, and find, if i have too, 2 walmart desk lamps an put em side by side with individual reflectors huh? there is no way i could customize that light fixture with just some nice shiny aluminum sheet to make it so the light is reflected into the tank only?

the 2x9w 9inch coralife fixture can work, but it definitely needs a fan.. and if salt creep gets in it... it goes downhill quick...

dunno... one bulb is 10,000k and one is actinic.. personally I think the color doesn't look all that great.. and the

[hr]
in CFL bulbs are going to be MUCH brighter.. you could always start with one and add a second one later...

mike I sent you an email with a rough paint sketch lol...
involves 2 sc-rew in 50/50 bulbs, desklamp arm, two pieces of highly polished reflective aluminum, the light sockets and cords, etc.. from 2 walmart 8inch dome lights, and plastic/metal plate and 2 hole clamps to hold the sockets to the plate. and a can of black krylon fusion for plastic to make it look nice hahaha.

I saw a perfecto perfect a lite incandescent fixture for a 5.5gallon (16inches long) for like $17 on the mountain of pets..

im not gunna lie i have the 9" coralife fixture and i hate it. The color is alright when you first turn them on but throughout the day it seems to fade. They run very hot on top of my tank and raise mine about 3degrees. My corals definitely dont seem to be that happy with them either. Just my 2 cents, id suggest a different fixture.

after skimming through that....ill pass on a nano. too complicated and beyond my level of skill. one day ill have one. I think they make perfect additions to a computer desk, or bedside. i wouldnt mind a sea horse nano.
