and can anyone tell me anything, good, bad, indifferent, just some general info, on these series of tanks
Pacific Coast Imports DMS700 15.5 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium
Current USA Cardiff Aquarium
Current USA Solana
Current USA AquaPod Aquarium
JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Cube Aquarium
these tanks are a lot more in my price range than the red sea max, unfortunately, well, the cardiff and solana are just as expensive LOL but the others are much more in my price range LOL
i wish u could order them sans stand, since i can get an awesome one built, but for the cardiff, solana, and red sea max, all the ones ive seen on this one website is for full kits, stands included, and im thinking that just the cubes themselves would be a lot cheaper without the stands attached, but i just dont know :(

2-3 max... dependant on size and your cleaning habbits! They would have to be really small to fall in the criteria of 3!

3 would probably be easier in the 15.5 gallon tank, right?
You would be better than you would be in the 12, but not by much! But for sure it would be better cause you have "more" room for them!

I know this might sound wierd, but the bigger the easier.... theroy behind it is that if you lose 1 gallon from a 10 gal tank, you have made your tank go into a 10% change..... similary if a 100 gal tank loses the same 1 gal... it is only a swing of 1%! So because of this, things that you do to it have less negative effect on it! On that aspect alone is a good reason to go with the 24, but you will also have alot more room to work with, and more room for fish and corals! You can do alot with a 24 that you couldn't do with a 15.5 G.
Also you have better light per gallon with that 24 at 2.66666 watts per gal, compaired to a 2.32.. watts per gal in the 15.5. So you would be able to do slightly better corals...... (ever so slightly!)
It really all boils down to prefrence, and what you are looking to do/for!
Buying and upgrading it to what you want is the name of the game!

well, i was going to steer away from reefs, but after going all over this section on the forums, well, i think im gonna do a 24g nano reef, but, go kinda sparse on the reefs at first, cause, well, im still really attached to the fowlr tanks lol, but, we just dont have the room in our current place to do a 75g so we're gonna do what we can do, which is lookin like the 24, id rather do the 34, but its wayyyyyyy outta the price range for now LOL

so the more wats per gallon the better huh? well, im really tempted to start calling some of these places tomorrow, and see if there is anyway to order these tanks sans stand, cause, once again, i dont need one LOL so why pay all that extra for something i have 0 use for

Don't buy new...get on craigslist and find used equiment. I had a chance the other week to get a 110 with sump and pump for 150.00...I was too slow. You have to be patient for the good deals, but for 140.00 or so you can get alot more than a 12 or 15 gallon. I would never buy new. JMHO

Gotcha...yeah the nano's are a little more rare. Hate to see you start so small...no fun IMO. get at least a 75 gallon, that's a perfect starter IMO.

the reason we wanna start that small is cause it will be next summer, at the earliest, before we have a place where we can put a 75g, and after looking over the nano's, well, the whole mini reef thing is starting to grow on me, but, my next one after that will definitely be a fowlr tank, but the gf wants a lil mini reef, and well, happy life an all that LOL

so chris, do u think i should go with like a 30g long? and then try and plumb it all up myself and stuff? i mean, i know places where i can get a 30g tank new, just the tank, really cheap an stuff, so would that be the way to go then? was just talkin to the gf, and she doesnt really like the cube look, prefers the long tank look, so i guess we're gonna be doing a 20-30g long LOL

30 is definitely better than 12 or 15 IMO...I have done saltwater tanks for a long time, but took 5 years or so off when I went to college. Then when I started back up I began with a 20 gallon...after a month or so I bought a 125. Especially being new you are going to want lots of cool stuff...find a way to make a big tank work...you don't really need that kitchen table
.

LOL yeah, i wish we could do something bigger, but, i think we're gonna go with a 30g long, so, knowing that, and that its gonna be reef/fish do u have any ideas on what we should get to set it up? pumps, sumps, whatnot? cause i honestly have no clue LOL

If you're looking to do reef type stuff...all I can say is you will need very pricey equipment. Great filtration to keep the water in check (probably a sump, and very good skimmer), powerful lights, and lots of circulation...there are others on this board much more qualified than I to give you advice on particulars to meet these demands. If you want to start much easier and less expensive go with a FOWLer. For a tank this size I would not worry about a sump. I would probably just use a hang on back or canister filter. I would not worry about a protein skimmer, maybe 1 powerhead depending on the strength of your filter and wether that filter is breaking the surface (oxygen). A heater some live rock and sand and you are on your way. With the small tanks I let my water changes do most of the work. Oh yeah, and lights don't really matter for a fowler...actually you don't "have" to have any. Much less expensive than going reef.
I had a 10 gallon going for a few months with just an airstone and 1 powerhead.
Guess if you are wanting to go "reefy" a nano would probably be your least expensive alternative...could be wrong though...
