polar, you are AWESOME.... but i really gotta disagree with you on that one.
I highly highly highly advise AGAINST catching any wild reptile and keeping it in the home. it's just not fair to the animal, and you are much more likely to get a healthier animal that is captive bred. captive bred animals do MUCH better in captivity than wild caught reptiles do.
Just had to get that offa my chest. :)

i think that the people that are afraid of snakes are simply uneducated about them.
lovethesea, i bet if you talked to some REAL herpers and maybe watched some GOOD shows on snakes (not like "the big squeeze" on animal planet... terrible show) you would really learn to appreciate them.
I saw an awesome show on animal planet once called "the beauty of snakes".
Maybe get a book and read about them. Only about 25% of snakes are venomous, and only 4 or 5 species get large enough to eat a small child:
African/Indian Rock Python
Burmese Pythons
Anacondas
Reticulated Pythons
maybe a Redtail Boa...
these are the only "giant" snakes. (i don't think I forgot any.)
they're really not bad once you get to know them. :) They're just little lizards without ears and legs... living pieces of string.

J/K on the kids.......
I will take all of the above sans the Snakes
throw in some good wine and I'm there.

Me, too.
You know...sometimes when my ball python is crawling up my arm...it feels like a massage! Groovy!
Meow---point taken on the wc snakes...here, though...pet stores will actually buy wc cornsnakes from kids who catch them. But correct you are...good breeders abound out there and cb snakes are so much healthier and safer.
