AAAAHHHHH I'm addicted to this damn hobby. I can't stop, I'm on these forums every second I get! I stalk fish stores at least 4 days a week. I read web pages, books, anything I can get my eyes on! I wish I had 10 tanks and more corals and fish then I can handle :)
Is it always like this :)

Me too. In 8 months I've spent all my money on this hobby and have got 3 tanks set up... and I only want more! I feel like it's unhealthy to get more and more tanks, so I try to make myself focus on the ones I have. I think I'd be happy with a 240 aggressive FOWLR, a 125 reef, and a mantis tank! In some ways it's fortunate that I don't have the money to do all of this or I'd spend all my time on it.

I was talking to the owner of my favorite LFS and he had 14 tanks running in his house before he opened his shop. He was working on the weekends to feed his hobby but his main job paycheck went to the house... so I guess that works :)

Yes, it is always like this. I have been a hobbiest for over 20yrs now and I can say that I spend more and want more and more as time goes by. Can't take your money with you when your gone, so you might as well enjoy it and your hobbies while you can, IMO.

I find myself addicted to this hobby as well.I will spend hours in front of my tank watching it and I love going to the LFS. Think them guys up there are tired of seeing me around.
But in the long run I think one day I would like to open up my own fish store.I think that would be a blast. The guy who owns the lfs here has been in the business for over 30 years.I think it's something I would love to do.
Plus I am spending all my money on this hobby as well and if I had my own store then I can have many kinds of fish and people would pay me for them. /giggle

I read the forums a lot also i'm a stay on home mom so i have lots of time, we go to the lfs just about everyday and look around lol i'm addicted too its a great hobby though!!

Lecithin - I have to say that what you need to do is just sit back (in front of your tank of course) and let yourself come to the realization that this "addiction" will not stay like this and that it is only a transitional period in your life that will undoubtedly progress. In other words:
IT ONLY GETS WORSE !!! IT NEVER ENDS !!!

People lets not use rhe word addiction. Trust me, addictions are frowned upon and usually thought of as requiring treatment by professionals. I preffer to think of this as a character flaw, possibly something in ones genetic make up. It is merely a difference we possess and others not having it can not understand. When I get home from work and it's been ruff with demanding clients or whimpering employees I grab a toddy and spend 30 minutes in front of my tank. Decompress time. Every Tuesday and Thursday that the lfs gets a delivery I am there by 2 pm to see what possibly I could want, first thing in the am I am here on the boards, and when supposedly invoicing or updating files, or writing bids and contracts I find myself here too!
Now if one is financially well off with quirks they are etcentric (sp) if one is not so financially well off thy are nuts or looney. In this hobby we really have no financially stressed individuals to start with, but we may all get there eventually!!!!

You also have to consider that your perfect piece of the ocean is priceless. Think of how much you're contributing to help the environment by keeping your own ecosystem and not spending X amount of money flying down to Australia and diving at the Great Barrier Reef constantly.
