? about bubble coral

I took a trip to RI this weekend for work and stopped to check out the local fish store. Found a nice piece of bubble coral at a good price so picked it up. They told me at the store if it's exposed to any air it will die, and knowing how accurate many of the LFS employees are I wanted to come ask here. If it touches any air will it die immediately?

I have never heard that one. I have heard it on sponges. Bubble coral is beautiful but make sure it has plenty of room and watch what is down current. At night the bubbles become stinging tendrils that flow with the water current and sting nearby corals killing them.

The LFS is telling you something truthful but has not explained it to you. The bubbles are water filled, and any water filled bubble or tentacle like that should be kept in water as the water acts as a suspension fluid. Somtimes you can get the bubbles to retract by moving your hand over them, or lightly touching them. Then they can be moved safely out of water.

no that is not true
expose all you want. I have bubble corals out for 5+ minutes fragging them with no issues

This makes sense.

Um, I think I may have also "popped" one of the bubbles. Will that heal or will they just grow a new one or something?

How long are these tendrils typically? We have dragon eye zoas about 8 inches away.

I am going to jump in here i just got a bubble coral 2 weks ago, each day mine seems to open less and less. where is the best place to put one. heavy flow, light flow ,lots of light, less light?.

Ours fully opened today. We have it midway up in the tank with some moderate flow on it.
Then I had to glue it down so I pissed it off and its not fully open anymore. Tomorrow it should be done with its temper tantrum and be fully open.
