I have 2 feather dusters in my 125 gallon. i've never had any problems with my blue leg hermits doing anything to harm them. when i put them in the tank i just put them in front of the rocks. they attached themselves. i wouldn't bother attaching them because if you handle them too much there's a good chance they'll leave that tube behind and make a new one. that won't kill them, it will just mean you will have done all that work for nothing. good luck! =)

Place them where the feathers wil be able to catch food! IN a spot wil a gentle current that would bring them food would be appreciated buy them! ;)

First of all,i have crushed coral also and when
i got mine the lfs said to bury the tail, but i
tried and it wasn't happy were i put it so it
moved,and buried it's self,so i would say just
put it in. Second, they are fish friendly, they
don't harm the fish and the fish don't harm them.
Thirdly they are filter feeders. And last, but not
least i don't know about them and your craps,cause i don't have a crap of any type.They
do more harm than good,in my opion.

I have not lost a Feather duster since I got rid of the crabs. Before that, I lost about 8 in a little over 2 Mo. I put the FD on rocks and they attach quite fast really. If they are happy, they will attach.

I have five FD's. Just added three yesterday. I placed each one with the "tail" near a rock Tuesday Noon. By that night they were all stuck fast. Two I put at medium height on the live rock and one I put lower. I find that they like the rock best. The FD's seems to dislike the turbo snails sucking on their tubes but so far it hasn't been a problem. My hermits bother nothing so I might be lucky on that front. One of my FD's blew his top when my Emerald was cleaning his tube, it has now grown back with a higher tolerance for snail sucking and crab scraping.
I don't feed these guys and have kept two alive for three months. I do, 2-3 times a week, use a turkey baster to blow detritus from the rock into circulation. This seems to be enough.
And they are gorgeous.
HTH.
