About to take the plunge

Hi everybody
I've been lurking here for a week or so. This forum is great. Very informative.
I'm about to start my first foray into SW tanks. I'm probably going to set it up as fish only for now. This is my current shopping list. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Am I missing anthing vital to start up?
56 gallon tank
Hagen Fluval 404
2- Hagen Powerheads 400gph ea
Aquatic Remora Protein Skimmer (20 gal Sump)
Assorted test gear
80# LS (Caribbean)
80# LR (Fiji)
My plan is to cycle the tank with the LSLR

Do I really need to start with water? I figured I could just have snad and rocks and make a desert? LOL

I'm not sure about lighting yet. If i'm setting up as a FOWLR, is lighting going to be an issue?

Why do you want an cannister filter with a sump? I would nix the fluval and get a Mag 7 for the sump return.

Equipment is good but i would dump the canister filter just use filter pads or filter socks in the sump they work much better and you don't have the extra equipment sitting under your stand.
Also i would use maxi-jets for the power heads they are better and are silent I use 4 of them.
