This came from my local forum, with permission of the original poster over there. He did not realize these 2 had been placed so closely together until he found:

He said a day after separating the combatants, the acan seem none the worse for wear, the wellso is still snotting a bit but seems to be OK.
Just thought I's share these amazing pics, enjoy!

WOW - that just looks nasty! I bet if they had been left to close for much longer - some serious damage could be done. Thanks for sharing, it;s a good reminder to give things room><

Ouch! Very cool photo, but I think if I had seen that in my tank my instincts would be to move them immediately, not take a photo first, lol

BMW just updated his thread a bit ago and said the acan looks fine but the wellso has some dead tissue.
These are post carnage pics of the combatants:

hmmm crazy! I didnt think shrooms were warriors! I figured they were like zoos and could be placed closer to things! Man i gotta do some research I guess! Only thing i can think of are palys that get all slimey when u touch em or frag em! This is the toxin im guessin! Also ive seen mushrooms spill their guts when feeling threatened!
A coral war thread would be awsome imo and informative!

Purple favia vs. long tenticle plate -- Lare favia colony fall onto a massive 8" plate. Favia never recovered, plate was very pissed for a couple days. Died a couple months later, unsure if related
Wellsophyllia vs. Lobo -- Large Lobo attacked (like the echinata above) a larger Wellsy brain. No real damage was done thankfully
Acan bowerbanki
vs. protopalys. -- Random little frag of proto's fell onto the Bowerbanki. No contest, lots of tissue recession on the Acan, but made a full recovery.

Did both take damage which would have won an all out war? :%%:

Favia vs. plate? Or brain vs. brain?
The favia was on top of the plate for ~30 minutes, did a water change, I'm sure when I closed the sump doors, it knocked the favia down (tried a new spot). When separated the plate was sliming alot, and the favia was really shrunk. The plate won the battle, but if left to continue, both would have lost the war.
The Lobo attacked (like the echinata up top) the Wellsy. I'm not sure if the Wellsy (also like the one up top, but red) would have been able to respond or fight back in time, so it would have been a one sided Lobo win.
