Accidental Frag

My Giant Purple Star was covering some of my zoos last night and when i pulled him off he pulled off some frags and they are just sitting int he sand...is it likely that they will survive do they need any special treatment im kinda pumped if this might work out to my benefit.

Just super glue (The gel type) them to a small piece of live rock. If you dont have small pieces, most lfs sell rubble, and or nano size live rock. (what colors zoo's ya got)

i heard somewhere that zoos do not frag well. All types of polyps that is... i may be mistaken. but i want to subscribe to this thread to see if anyone else knows....
but superglue would work if they do not die. If they do, get them out of the tank.

zoo's do frag well. at least mine have.

In a healthy systems zoos, like matting star polyps and xenia, can actually overrun your tank. They frag very easily.

SUPERGLUE? this wont f__k with my chemistry...im confused i thought this was a liquid I can just put taht s--t in my tank and it wont disturb the chems at all, sounds stragne to me...neway...yea im going to get some rock from the store and im thinking mayeb i should just frag this whole multi rock i have, it was orange and green and yellow zoos, and it was two kinds of other polyps of whic i dont know their names, one is yellow and the other has a purple stalk and a white dot in the middle of the end of the stock,(looks great under the actinics) neway, i guess if u convince me ill do the superglue thing just sounds a littel shady...any ideas about comepletely fragging the multi rock? is it hard will it take long is it dangerous....let me know....im pumped i want to spread all this fun to the rest of the tank...

oh wait a minute.... i might have mis-interpreted the original post. yes.... yes i did. NVM. i know zoos frag though. i was just thinking someone else had happened tot hem also. sorry!
But yes, superglue will work fine. It dried quickly too. Just stick it in as soon as it does.

nope glue away. i have done it and do it all the time. i like to glue lots of different zoos to one rock.
glue also works well with leathers and LPS. some people have good luck with glueing things like shrooms but i find it very hard since they jsut slime the glue right off.
if you have one rock with polyps on it that you want to seperate its very simple.
this is what i do. i know it sounds scary but once you do it once and see that it will be fine you will become a fraging junky.
1. fill a bowl with tank water big enough to fit the rock you want
2. remove the rock and place in bowl
3 take new razor and cut through the base of the polyps in the spots you want to frag.
4 take a dremel and a cutting wheel and go to town.
5. place new pieces in the bowl to wash off and back in the tank they go.
ps: i dont even use a dremel anymore. heck i dont even cut the base of the polyps first.
i take a large wide chisel and a hammer and break the rock where i want to. i have never lost a rock yet by doing this and we have done it coutless times. if you have a good system with good water quality these corals are alot tuffer then some people think

half the time all I do I cut the mat, and give em a pull super glue/gel ,and place back in the tank. Yeah shrooms, and glue didn't work to good for me either, they seemed to stay their for a little bit, but then moved within a couple weeks.

Thanks for the advice and i think i might go to town on this rock sometime in the near future...will be sure to photo document it.

when you cut the polyp at the base, will the base grow back into a complete polyp again?

well yes if you mean will the base reattach to another rockand grow new basemat and spread new polyps.
if you cut the polyps itself in half chances are you will have seen the last of that one polyp

well if you cut it at the base, should you remove the base then? so it doesnt rot make your levels go up?

be sure you are taking the poylps off at the rock, and not cutting them in half. you need to get up under and pry it off the rock. they use super glue GEL. to glue to new rock.
