accidently dropped nickel plated chain in tank!

As I was hanging the lights above my tank, I dropped a single link of Nickel plated chain into my tank. It was in there for two days before I realized it

. How is this going to effect my tank? I know that any amount of copper will kill all invertebrates. Is there anything similar with Nickel?

Try hanging a circular magnet in there on a piece of fishing line.. im assuming its magnetic,, no?

I got it out, just wondering if it is dangerous to the aquarium inhabitants.

Could be wrong, but I highly doubt it will have any negative effect on your tank.

I had a 3in

was there any oxidation on the necklace? this would show breakdown of the nickel plating, which would tell you if any of it got into the water itself.. but like said above, it will most likely cause no ill effects.. would probably take alot longer for the nickel plating to start breaking down..
another question.. do you use jewelry cleaner??

Excellent point! The piece itself was pulled out quickly, so I doubt that there was contamination from it, itself, but what may have been on it before it dropped in?

you guys ar think this is a necklace but in fact i think he is talking anout a chain for hanging the lights, you should be fine if you get it out in a timely matter say 2 weeks, but copper is a based for nickel plating process. I tyhink you should be fine if none of the nickel is chipping off as stated above.

rtspeed: You are correct it was a single chain link from the chains I used to hang the lights.
It was taken out somewhere between 1-2 days. There appeared to be a little bit of rust on the link...

I would say it is unlikely there would be any trouble. Run a polyfilter or Kent's heavy metal resin if concerned. If there is a problem, your inverts will show it first.
