acid stain floors and fish health

I was just informed by the floor guy that when he acid stains our floor it is going to be caustic. I am going to tape off the door from the room getting the work done(and shutting down the ac)and I was wondering if I should just completely shut down the tank and cover it. If I should, then how long can I leave it shut down? Thanks for any help!

I am not sure what caustic means, but I would definetely shut down any air intakes such as protein skimmers. Not sure about covering though...

Just block the vents and door's in the room with your fish tank? Maybe cover the top of the tank with soemthing also

As far as I know acid staining if caustic from fumes so that is your main worry. Covering the tank will not do anything. I would just do what you planned and shutting off the protein skimmer for 24 hrs would not hurt to be on the safe side.

fumes are the problem. Any vent should be covered, and AC off. Tape off the doors like you are going to, put a moist towel under the door.(or if you have one of those draft stop things) Also if it worries you a few sheets over the tank,, cant hurt anything, it will stop any dust that gets stirred up from getting in the tank when you open the door also. Keep everything on like normal.

It wasn't the brand, it was the prep work. I fired him before he sealed it. The paint splatters and glue were still on the floor when he stained it. I told him it looked like one of my animals had pooped on the floor. I know, I was mean, but my floor it just horrible. I am waiting on another estimate from someone else now. Never give anyone money up front. When will I learn

I was just curious what brand you used.At least it can be fixed and good thing you caught it before he sealed it! Good luck! Post pics when done.

My floor is finished.
This guy was amazing, he is my new best friend. Who knew you could do this to concrete and at the cost of carpeting (that gets dirty and wet and smells like my dogs)

Looks wonderful, he did a beautiful job! I do not have any carpeting in my house and with five cats and fish tanks I really am glad I do not. I am so happy for you that it was fixed and done very well.
