aclimation

I did a search on aclimation and cant really find anything explaining the process. I found one post that mentions drip aclimation but not how its done. can anyone help me out on this?

Get your self a section of air hose about 6 ft. and tie a loose knot into it. Then get yourself a 5 gallon bucket or something similar and place your newly acquired specimens into it. Now start a syphon from your tank into the 5 gallon bucket with the airhose. The knot in the hose slows down the speed of the drip. You will have to adjust it accordingly. Measue the SG in the tank and also in the bucket. When the SG is the same in both, then your acclimation is finished. It should take about an honor if done correctly. I just tried using some of the smaller diameter air hose and it really slows down the speed. Hope this helps you out.

Some fish and inverts require longer acclimation periods than others.
If you click on the fish button on this site and start selecting different fish types you will see different recommended acclimation times.
