I did some research and if it is in fact lettuce coral, they too require very bright light. Although they look nothing like acropora I have to say if your LFS is selling it as acropora no wonder he is going out of business! Can I make a suggestion? Buy a good coral book from Sprung or Borneman. Then take the book with you or go back home and study before you buy. I take mine with me every time I visit a fish store.
Hope this helps.

I have to disagree that light isn't everything. Acros need intense light to keep the symbiotic zooxthanthellae allive. As almost everyone who has kept acros under the wrong lighting has noticed that the acros trun brown and continue loose color. Browning can also be caused by to much UV radiation, but that is different. With the zooxthanthellae to provide nutrition they will stop growing and waste away no matter what your Ca and Alk levels are, which I feel are equally important. You can't have one without the other when dealing with acros. And if you disagree then I have to ask you this....why keep acros if they are just "surviving". They are a pretty ugly coral when they are brown or bleached. The beauty of them comes from their amazing brilliant color morphs which can only be attained from intense lighting of the right spectrum without too much UV light. I just picked up 5 acrp frags the other day that I have to post, but I bought them because of the color. If I knew the were not going to thrive in my tank, I would not have got them. You can cut Cathy18 a break. I wouldn't take it back if it were 8 dollars, just see how it does to answer the question for yourself. Put it very close to the light and watch the color day by day. Only then will this question be answered for good.

Once again I repeat, I always read up a little about a coral that I want to buy and then I purchase it but in this case I was driving by and stopped at the store and the guy was having a MOVING sale, (not going out of business just relocating to a bigger store) and he was selling all corals for $8 and actually gave me 2 corals for $8 and a free fish. I did ask about the 2 corals as far as placement, lighting, etc. before I bought it. He couldve given me the wrong information because he was so anxious to get rid of everything which is why i came to the board for help. Thanks,
