What is/are the advantage(s) of getting acrylic. I assume that they can be molded in any shape and the tanks are lighter than glass but they are so easy to scratch.

I will never go back to glass. My tanks are around 15 years old and look as good as the day I got them. They aren't scratched because I don't scratch them. Cleaning devices made for acrylic cost the same and are used the same way as those for glass. Try to find the posts about tanks leaking and destroying a room and livestock. They will all be involving glass tanks.

I also will never go back to glass! In a big tank no way would I risk glass or a seal going bad and having 100's of gallons on my floor. I do have a few scratches in my tank but you have to look hard to see them. Also you can fix them in acrylic and never in glass. For me my tank in low lead glass (starfire) was about 3x the price and more for shipping.

Acrylic if by far clearer than glass, but if a small asternia star can get in between the mag-float and the acrylic and scratch it it's not for me. I have a 35 gallon acrylic frag tank that is awesome, but too touchy for my cleaning!

Another benefit of Acrylic is the provide far better insulation than glass. The longer I have my Acrylic tank the more I love it.

I would never use a magfloat on my tank. Hammerhead Magnet and never keep it in the tank after I am done. To scrape it I use old credit cards or hotel room keys. I have seen some bad things done with the kent acrylic safe scrappers.

I'm so accident prone I can scratch glass (I frag a lot and move rocks a lot) for a hands off display I would consider acrylic, but a working display/propagation tank I'm sticking with glass If I were to go 120 or larger I would go acrylic because of the reliability mentioned above. I dont like the smaller access holes of acrylic tanks they make it too restrictive for my working preferences, I say depends on the application. If your going display only or extremly large go for acrylic, If your gonna frag and stay small (realitively) I would vote glass. But thats just my opinion. either has pros and cons.
