Acrylic tanks

I just left my LFS. I was getting prices on new tanks and they told me something I had never heard. Thay said that acrylic tanks are bad for saltwater. Their reason was the salt will break down the welded bonds and that chems will leech back into the water with time. I have had 2 acrylic tanks with no probs. Still running on of them. Is there any merit to what they say. I know alot of people running arylic tanks that have never mentioned any problems.

Considering many research institutions utilize acrylic tanks. I'm finding that a slim possibility.

Your lfs is probably a glass tank retailer. So they will try to persuade you to go with glass.

I thought that was their motivation, but when I told them I owned two with no problems. They did not have much of a response.

I had an acrylic tank setup for about 11 years with saltwater in it the entire time. Oh, I bought it used and the guy before me had saltwater too.....
Find another lfs...

Someone should notify all the national public aquariums. :D
Sounds like they don't carry acylic so they talk trash about it.
Sad way to do business. If they are going to try to talk you into buying glass, there are plenty of real reasons to go that route without having to make up something - just like there are good reasons to go acrylic.

Acrylic bonding is done at a molecular level. If anything I would think that the seals on a glass tank would suffer damage from saltwater over time... not acrylic.

Not to change the subject here but I need to know what I can use to clean the outside of my acrylic tank. I don't have any special cleaner for acrylic. Anything I could mix up to clean it? And what is in glass cleaner that makes it turn yellow? Thanks
