Actinics

I'm wanting to replace the lights on my Eclipse hood (wow was that ever a mistake to get, heh) and have researched around some and found that one 10,000K fluorescent paired with an Actinic 03 is a desirable combination. My problem lies in the wattage of all the Actinic 03's I've looked at online. I need bulbs that are 24" and aren't more than 18 watts (if my memory serves me right, the Eclipse hood won't take more than 18 watts per bulb). Unfortunately, all the ones I've come across online are 20 watts. I did however come across a couple Actinic 420's that are 17 watts. My tank only has two clowns, two shrimp, LR and LS. I just want a lighting combination that looks nice and would benefit the inhabitants. Should I just go with the Actinic 420 bulb or keep looking for an 03? Thanks in advance!

I personally love the look of actinics! I would go with 50/50 actinics!! That will be enough light for your tank. todd

I was considering those as well but wasn't sure how they'd look. Do you think two 50/50s would look better than one 10,000K and one 03? And, this is almost pathetic, I've been looking online for quite some time now and even the 50/50 bulbs start at 20 watts and up for a length of 24". The Eclipse hoods are definitely not user friendly!

Hmm yeah see my problem is finding even a plain 03 bulb that will work (or white actinics at that)...I don't know why it's so hard for companies to lower their bulbs by two watts! But then again, I don't know why Marineland couldn't make their hoods more compatible with everything else. :notsure:
