Activated carbon in . . .pantyhose?

Just curious, even when you use activated carbon granules from Marineland (the only brand LFS carry here) in the media baskets in hang filters, and pre rinsing, there are still some small granules that spill back into the tank.
1. Are those small granules harmful in main tank?
2.Could you put those granules in some kind of mesh bag or make shift one like pantyhose and just drop it into the hangon filter (because I don't have filter cartridges in them)? Or would pantyhose idea not be ideal, hurt tank water quality, anything like that?
Thanks for tips. If anyone knows of any good brands of activated carbon that comes in little bags already, let me know, need to find some.

i think panty hose would be fine but you should be able to get some mesh bags at the lfs to hold it with draw strings.

Make sure there is no detergent residue on panty hose.
Small bits of carbon in the tank wouldn't hurt anything either. Might look cruddy if you have a white sand bottem though.

Are you just sticking it in the tank? I think it really only works if it is in a high flow area in your tank. something that will push the water through the Carbon. If I were you I would just buy some mesh bags, Pantyhose would work, but they get holes in them pretty easily (ask any woman).

Birdy, no not just anywhere, this is all within the hang on filter, where rushing water goes through, just looking for better ways to do it than with the normal media slots that come with the filter.
