Ok, I finially got brave and added 40lbs more of LS and about 40 more lbs of LR, moved things around, took an hair algae covered ship out that my husband and son liked, but I didn't. I am trying to make it better for putting corals in by having live rock with holes to place the hard corals. This 55g has been up and going for about 6 months, so far so good, slight nitrate up to 20, I change 20% and it goes back down. I have 3 little clowns and a lawn mower blenny for fish in it. Slowly starting to add corals, have a bubble coral now, that is doing great, a rock with hairy mushrooms that is doing wonderful, some green mushrooms, and that is it so far.
My question is will the tank cycle again? Even with putting so much more LR and LS in. I will check it everyday, but my LFS guy said it wouldn't cycle again, but some where here I read where it will. Who has had experience adding to an established tank. Oh and there really wasn't much cloudiness, went really smooth. :cheer:
The LR I had here in QT for 3 weeks and was looking really really good.

did you check the parameters in the QT? if the ammonia and nitrites are down then the rocks will be ok. What exactly do you mean live sand? From a established tank? how long in transport? purchased from web?

If the live rock had no "Die off" time its unlikley that it will cycle. but it is always safer to "cure" live rock before adding to your tank. otherwise it may cycle again

The live rock was cured at LFS for 6-8 weeks, then I bought it, put it in a QT tub for 3 weeks to make sure no parasites for my fish were on it, so it was very cured. The live sand was the sand you buy in the bag.

You should be fine. The "live" sand in the bag just has bacteria in it But truly live sand would have worms, copopods etc. When you add the sand the water will cloud but dont worry it will clear overnight and shouldnt hurt the fish.

You should be fine with the rock. As far as the sand, if you did not put in more than 1/4" on top of your existing sand bed, you will not kill your existing sand, smothering it, and causing a cycle. In a 55 gallon tank, you should be fine with 40lbs of new sand. Just move the sand around if you have any places that are deep. Remember, the 40lbs of weight includes the water that is packaged with the sand. If I am thinking about the right live sand. I have used this sand, very good.
